Majestic Swiss Alps

The Swiss Alps, also known as the “Roof of Europe,” are a majestic mountain range that spans across Switzerland and neighboring countries. The Alps offer some of the most stunning scenery in the world, with snow-capped peaks, crystal-clear lakes, and lush valleys. The region is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts, with a wide range of activities available year-round, including skiing, hiking, climbing, and mountain biking.

Surrounded by towering peaks and nestled between the two stunning lakes – Lake Thun & Lake Brienz, Interlaken is an ideal location to explore the Swiss Alps. The first thing that you notice as soon as you step foot in Interlaken are the paragliders all over the sky. Interlaken is widely regarded as a paragliding heaven, offering an exhilarating experience for anyone who loves flying or adventure sports.

For those seeking a more relaxed pace, the charming town offers plenty of opportunities to take a stroll along the lakes, enjoy the local cuisine, or take a horse cart ride for some fun. You can also take the funicular to the mountain peak, Harder Kulm. Once at the summit, visitors can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views from the observation deck, grab a bite to eat at the restaurant, or take a hike along one of the many trails in the area.

To further explore the Interlaken region , take a trip to Lake Brienz and Lake Thun, two stunning lakes that offer an array of outdoor activities. Lake Brienz is known for its crystal-clear turquoise waters, while Lake Thun boasts an impressive castle overlooking its waters. Make sure to visit the picturesque village, Iseltwald on the shore of Lake Brienz, surrounded by the Bernese Alps. The village was made famous by popular Korean drama series – Crash Landing On You that was filmed here. Don’t be surprised if you see crowded buses plying tourists to this small village

Head next to the charming Swiss villages – Lauterbrunnen, Murren and Grindelwald. On the left is a map of the region, you can plan your days using this. My recommendation would be to cover Lauterbrunnen, Murren and Wengen on first day and trip to Grindelwald and Jungfraujoch the next day.

Lauterbrunnen, is located in a valley that is famous for its 72 waterfalls. The village is surrounded by towering cliffs and stunning mountain peaks, including the famous Jungfrau, Eiger, and Mönch.

Murren, a car-free village further up located on a plateau at an altitude of 1,650 meters, offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. The village is accessible only by cable car or train, which adds to its charm.

You can go further up to Piz Gloria which is a revolving restaurant atop the summit of Schilthorn mountain. This is where James Bond movie was shot.

On your way down, you can catch the train to Wengen (only way to access it) which is another picturesque Swiss village located in the Lauterbrunnen Valley.

Grindelwald is another scenic Swiss village located in the Bernese Alps. The Grindelwald First Cliff Walk is a thrilling experience located on the summit of the Grindelwald First mountain. The walk features a narrow suspension bridge that stretches out over a cliff face, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. Visitors can test their nerves as they make their way across the bridge, which is 45 meters long and 40 meters above the ground. The Cliff Walk is a popular attraction for adventure-seekers and offers a unique perspective on the stunning natural beauty of the Swiss Alps.

From Grindelwald, you can plan your trip to Jungfraujoch (Top of Europe).

  • From Grindelwald station, take the Eiger express to Eigerglestcher station, board the Jungfraubahn to Jungfraujoch (fastest option)  → Take this on way up
  • On the way down, take the train to Kleine Scheidegg, for a different view → Take this on way down

Your tickets to Jungfraujoch cover the round trip and you can pick either routes as per convenience. Once at top you can visit the Sphinx Observation Deck to get a panaromic view of Alestch Glacier and then make your way to the Ice Palace.

Overall, Interlaken and its surrounding region offers an unforgettable adventure and a unique perspective on the stunning Swiss Alps. Whether you’re seeking an adrenaline-pumping adventure or a relaxing retreat, this region is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Switzerland.
