London truly comes alive during the Christmas season, transforming into a sparkling wonderland of twinkling lights, festive cheer, and delightful markets. If you’re planning a holiday visit to this magical city, you’re in for a treat—literally and figuratively. From artisanal gifts to seasonal treats, London’s Christmas markets offer something for everyone, all set against the backdrop of the city’s iconic landmarks. Here is how our family vacation to London’s christmas markets unfolded
We started our exploration with the Christmas by the River at London Bridge. Set against the backdrop of the majestic Tower Bridge, this offers one of the most scenic Christmas market experiences in London. The market stretches along the riverbank, with beautifully decorated chalets selling everything from festive food and mulled wine to handcrafted jewelry and ornaments.
Tip: If you’re in the area, stop by Borough Market for some of the best seasonal food in London.
Next up was the Covent Garden Christmas Market , one of the most iconic in London, known for its beautiful decorations, including a giant Christmas tree, sparkling lights, and stunning wreaths adorning the buildings. Don’t miss the seasonal street performances around the piazza. Take some time to wander through the surrounding streets, as Covent Garden’s entire area is beautifully decorated for the season.
Next we headed to the Leicester Square Christmas market. Nestled right in the heart of London’s West End, Leicester Square is not only a top spot for theatre-goers but also a festive hub come Christmas time. It is compact but full of charm, with a beautifully decorated area brimming with wooden chalets offering delicious food to sweet treats like churros and crepes.
We wrapped our tour wandering through the Streets of Central London famous for their festive lights and decor. While not technically Christmas markets, the Christmas lights on Bond Street, Oxford Street, and Regent Street are an essential part of London’s festive charm. The grand lighting displays along these iconic shopping streets are breathtaking and make for a perfect evening stroll. These streets are also home to some of the city’s best shops, so you can enjoy some Christmas shopping while taking in the lights.
London’s Christmas markets and festive lights offer a truly magical experience, whether you’re shopping for unique gifts, indulging in delicious food, or simply soaking in the holiday spirit. So, bundle up, enjoy a cup of mulled wine, and let the festive spirit of London sweep you off your feet. Happy holidays!
